Witness In BC Kidnapping Case Gets A Free Pass While His Partner’s In Crime Will Do Time

Tunie Vu isn’t an angel by any stretch of the imagination, yet he expects a judge and jury to believe that when a plan was put together to kidnap university student Graham McMynn, he only did what he was asked to do to pay off a portion of his gambling debt. I don’t know what those close to the case or the kidnappers have to say, but it’s a good thing I’m not sitting on the jury because if I was, I would put a lot of effort into trying to convince my fellow jurors that Vu was full of shit.

I have no doubt in my mind the Vu is lying.

Sure, I don’t know all the facts about the case and I have never met Vu, but given his criminal history, well…What can I say? I didn’t just fall off the back of a turnip truck.

The story Vu is telling the court is convenient, and lucky for him Crown prosecutors believed the story he told them when he was arrested, otherwise he would be sitting in the prisoner’s docket with his two partner’s in crime.

According toVu he says that he owed the alleged kidnappers $13k, and that he was told by them that if he rented a house for them to hold their captive in, they would write off more than half of his gambling debt. Vu should have held out for more if that was the case, after all, the risks he would be taking by getting involved in the kidnapping plot are worth a hell of a lot more than $7k. Being the experienced criminal he is, I’m surprised he didn’t, and I’m even more surprised that he played this so-called extortion game he alleges he was caught up in.

I don’t doubt that Vu and the two kidnappers he is testifying against had a conversation in a pool hall about a kidnapping, but I do doubt that the conversation came about because Vu owed one of the kidnapper’s $13k. I get the feeling that Vu approached the kidnappers to set up another score, nothing more, nothing less.

I will even go so far as to say to my readers that Vu not only approached the kidnappers, but that he likely picked out the victim.

I think Vu was the ringleader of the gang, and his co-conspirators are going to down for the crime out of loyalty to Vu, or because they are afraid of what Vu can do to them if they don’t take the fall for him.

During Vu’s testimony the accused kidnappers could be seen smirking at each one another while Vu testified. Those smirks were likely because they were pleased at how Vu was putting one over on the courts and the Crown prosecutor. If the men on trial believed for one minute that Vu was lying, they would have put on quite a performance, after all, if convicted they are going to jail for a long time.

As a juror I would have paid close attention to the actions of McMynn’s kidnappers and Vu’s alleged blackmailers, and I would have concluded that the two men on trial and the man testifying against them had a lot more in common than gambling debts between them. The three of them have likely committed a few crimes together, only this time Vu has found a way to avoid prosecution.

That being said, it doesn’t matter what Vu says to the jurors because the deal is done. Vu made a deal with the Crown prosecutors to testify against his partner’s in crime, and while they are going to go jail for a few years, Vu will be able to remain on the streets of Vancouver where he will continue to commit crime. I see a bullet in Vu’s future. It’s not a matter of if, but when.

As far as I’m concerned Vu is lying through his teeth so he can save his own hide. As long as he isn’t going to jail he doesn’t care who he burns. We’re talking about a guy who would likely burn his own family if it meant he didn’t have to go jail. I have no doubt about it. He is a criminal, plain and simple, and I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to hear that he is involved in Asian organized crime to some extent.

And to add insult to injury in this case: the Crown prosecutors and the police investigating this case have shown how naive and stupid those who are supposed to protect and serve really are when it comes to fighting Asian crime in British Columbia.

What gets me in this case is that Vu is known to have lied to police in the past, is into running credit card scams, and dealing in drugs, yet he has managed to convince the Crown prosecutor that he was nothing more than an extortion victim in this case, and they offered him a deal. Can you believe it?

It says a lot about the naivety of the Crown prosecutor and the police in British Columbia when it comes to dealing with somebody of Vu’s ilk. Vu has made them look stupid in my opinion, and he has probably had quite a chuckle at the fact that he has been able to put one over and the Crown and police investigators.

At the end of the day, the two men on trial will spend a few years behind bars, and their partner in crime will have helped to put them there. Vu will have avoided criminal prosecution in this case, and will be able to continue his enterprising criminal ways to support his wife and child, while creating more victims on the streets of Vancouver.

That’s justice for you.
