No sooner do I finishing ranting and bitching in Crooked in Canada about the Omar Khadr case, then comes along a US military judge who has just rejected a bid by Khadr’s defense team to dismiss the the charges that will keep him locked up a little while longer. F**king ‘A’
Personally, I think this kid should at the very least be convicted of manslaughter charges, and spend at least another 5-10 years in a Canadian prison, and today’s ruling is a good start to that end.
As for those you who think it will cost too much money, that the Americans should have to pick up the tab too, get over it, I’m sure his family could absorb the cost of letting him serve out his sentence in Canada. They have a lot of support, especially in the mountains of Afghanistan, and likely along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
They likely have contacts who are more willing than Khadrs to cover the costs of their son’s detention in Canada. I’m sure their benefactors will want something in return, and equally sure that the Khadrs might not have a say in it. Remember who Omar’s father was.
Omar is going to be pretty high maintenance in any prison he is sent to and somebody will pay for it, but I have more confidence in the Canadian system being able to rehabilitate him before his release than I do for the US.
He will be released, his freedom is inevitable, and as far as I’m concerned I think Canadians are better equipped to change the path Khadr is on before he is released back into the community. One thing is for sure, he certainly won’t be allowed to live in the US once he is released, and he won’t want to live there.
Where is he going to go when he is set free, Canada or Afghanistan? He’ll still be in his mid thirties, perhaps even younger, when he gets his first taste of freedom since October 2002 when he was captured in a FIREFIGHT.
One thing is for sure, I definitely would be keeping track of the entire family in Canada from this moment on. Daddy’s favourite son is going to trial and somebody is going to advance their cause in Omar’s name.
I’m sure the Khadrs would do anything for their son, who is well on his way becoming some sort of hero for the people he supported, bombed and murdered for. Sweet -eh?
This is the time of year the enemy steps up their campaign of terror. Winter is over in Afghanistan, the US and Canada. The al-Qaeda have stepped up their campaign now. That in turn raises the level of fight in the Taliban, and then of course there’s Omar Khadr fate in the US. Trust me, somebody in the Taliban is following the plight of one of their own, in fact Osama could be following the case too.
Don’t think for one minute that the risk of terrorist attack today isn’t any greater than it was when Khadr was first captured.
The longer the Khadr trial goes on, the greater the risk for a terrorist attack against Canadians and the Americans. They are able to strike against their enemy anywhere in the world as was the case in Bali, Indonesia.
Canadians (at least the one’s that pay attention to this terrorism shit) already know they are already on the enemy’s hit list.
We’ll see what happens between now and whenever Khadr is released fronm his US captors.
In the mean time, I hope Canadian authorities have been keeping tabs on the Khadrs, watching and following their every move. You never know who they might want to reach out to in their time of need.
