Her book hasn’t been released yet, but when Julie Couillard’s book about her relationship with ex-foreigner affairs minister Maxime Bernier hits the shelves later this month, it very well could become a Canadian best-seller. I think it will by the way.
The publishers have begun to tease us a little bit with little trailers from “My Story” and it would appear that Maxime Bernier might have some issues, the kind of issues discerning voters in his Beauce riding might consider unbecoming of an elected official. The book of course won’t have an effect on Bernier before October 14, but it will make life miserable for him in his riding and there will be no ministerial duties on offer for him should he win his riding. As longer as PM Stephen Harper is at the helm, Bernier will be destined to remain on the backbench.
And to think Bernier thought that Harper wouldn’t last a term in office, and that he would become the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada. What arrogance. He over estimates his political importance not only to his party, but to Canadians as a whole. Couillard’s book, if the content is to be believed, will impede Bernier from making any further gains in politics than he already has. She obviously has gone out of her way to stick it to her former lover big time, and despite Bernier saying that the claims in her book are ridiculous, he never said they were lies and if I was a constituent in Beauce I would have my doubts as to how emotionally and mentally fit Bernier really is when it comes to representing the best interests of his constituents and the rest of Canada in the House of Commons.
Maybe it’s me, but from the little teasers released from Couillard’s book so far I would have to say that when it comes to Maxime Bernier it would appear that he likes to think he is better than everybody else, thinks his shit doesn’t think, and really overestimates his value on the Canadian political scene. In reality the only reason Bernier is a Conservative MP is because in his Beauce riding it doesn’t take much for somebody to get elected there. The only qualifications constituents in Beauce require when electing an MP is that the candidate be dumb enough for them to trick, arrogant enough to think that he or she can’t be fooled by their constituents, and last but certainly not least, stupid enough to believe that he isn’t expendable. Bernier fits that bill to a tee.
Now the claims in Couillard’s book we have heard so far.
According to Couillard, and I would believe her before I would ever believe Bernier, while he was the minister of foreign affairs and after a romp in the sack with the sultry woman, he pulled some documents out of his briefcase and asked her to throw them out for him on garbage day. Why couldn’t he do it himself, or what was he trying to prove to Couillard one might ask, well she answer that question in her book by saying that the vain and flippant man she had come to know was saying, “Look at me, I’m a minister of the Crown. I’m somebody incredibly important walking around with ultra-confidential documents in my briefcase, but I am above all that. You see what I am doing with them?” In other words she’s saying Bernier was trying to impress her, show her that he trusted her.
He did it because he was trying to win her back; after all they were only f**k buddies at the time after ending the more serious part of their relationship four months earlier. He definitely was going out of his way to impress her, that’s my take on it anyway.
Couillard also says in her book that Bernier often criticized his boss’s weight and sense of fashion, that PM Harper was fat, unhealthy and drank too much Pepsi. If that is in fact true, Bernier might want to consider (provided he wins his riding on October 14) sitting as an Independent or crossing the floor for the Liberals because sure as shit, he isn’t winning over any friends in the Conservative Party with an attitude like that. If he has said such things about Harper, imagine what he has said about other Conservatives. Of course the kind of comments Couillard says Bernier made about Harper could easily be attributed to one of the seven deadly sins, the one being envy quickly comes to mind.
She also says in her memoir, as I have already mentioned, wouldn’t survive his first term as PM, and that he actually believed that he would replace Harper as Tory leader. That by the way is really funny, and a totally unrealistic expectation on Bernier’s part. God he must really think highly of himself. That arrogance thing I guess.
The former “biker chick” also says that Bernier believed that his colleagues thought he was gay, and that by having a girlfriend, people on the Hill would stop whispering he was gay. Wow! That says a lot about Bernier too doesn’t it, but it still leaves people guessing about his sexuality I guess. I mean he could be bi-sexual right? Why would he care about what people thought about his sexuality, unless of course he had something to hide or was ashamed of his sexuality? By the way, if he was gay or bi-sexual, he isn’t the only person like that on Parliament Hill.
Then there’s the part in her book where she says Bernier knew about her links to men who were either members of outlaw biker gangs or who had close ties to that world.
I said a long time ago that there was no Bernier wouldn’t have known, that he had the resources at his disposal to check out his new squeeze’s past, and that she would have likely told him about her underworld ties early in their relationship. She proved me right on the latter in her book when she says that despite Bernier’s denial that he knew about her past, she told him in the early stages of their relationship.
Bernier’s denial that he knew nothing about Couillard’s past when the shit hit the fan in the House is an outright lie, and if Stephane Dion is calling for Harper to fire anybody within the Conservative Party, he should be calling for Bernier’s head. Yet another reason why Bernier is an acceptable choice to represent his constituents and the rest of Canada. Add liar to his resume now.
According to Couillard when she told Bernier about her past, there were no “oohs” and “ahs”, that he didn’t even so much as raise an eyebrow. In other words he sloughed off what she was saying because he already knew. He certainly wasn’t going to tell her he already knew about her past, what with issue of trusts being at the forefront of a relationship that is just getting of the ground.
Couillard says he was barely surprised when she told him that her “Rock Machine” husband was murdered. Gee, anybody think his reaction might have something to do with the fact that he already knew that too.
As anybody would expect, Bernier has gone all defensive, and why wouldn’t he, after all he is in the midst of an election campaign.
He has gone into damage-control mode, making sure that he lets his constituents know that despite his busy schedule as an MP and a minister, he went out of his way to return to his riding several times a month in order to meet with the people of Beauce. Yeah right on that one.
He had ulterior motives for returning to Beauce as often as he did, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear late on that during those visits he visited quite a few women, perhaps even men to meet his carnal needs.
He has also said that the claims in his trophy ex-girlfriend’s book, due out on October 6, are “completely ridiculous.”
Whatever you say “the honourable member” for Beauce.
